Do student loans go to the school or directly to the student?

Student loans about to go to graduate school financial aid?

  • I graduated from undergrad last may. Im about to go back to school for my masters this august. My loans have been up for payment however since i have no job (yet) I haven't been paying on them. Im going to need a loan for the fall when I go back to school. I just go a deferment form in the mail. When I apply for financial aid in the fall for grad school will i still be able to apply for loans if I apply for a deferment now?

  • Answer:

Yes, you may apply for additional loans while in deferment. Make sure to request an In-School Deferment when you enter school so that you are not using up the time limit on your Unemployment or Economic Hardship Deferment. EDIT: You are not in default unless you are 270 days delinquent. If you want to check your loan status, go to: http://www.nslds.ed.gov/nslds_SA/ You will need your Department of Education PIN (FAFSA PIN). If you don't have it, request a duplicate: https://pin.ed.gov/PINWebApp/PINServlet?state=100
