Do student loans go to the school or directly to the student?

How do student loans work if you graduate with an undergraduate degree and the go on to grad school?

  • If I graduate with a bachelor's degree and then move on to grad school right after, will my loans still be put off until I graduate from grad school or will I have to start paying them since I graduated with a bachelors? Also, if I graduated in the fall semester with my undergraduate degree, and didn't go to grad school until the following fall semester (meaning that I would have taken off the spring semester), will my loans start since I'm technically not a student in the spring? I hope I made sense! Thanks for all the help in advance.

  • Answer:

I believe when you go back for your grad degree, you won't have to pay on your student loans...as long as you go half time. Sorry, I'm not 100% sure. I DO know that once you leave school, you have 6 months before you have to start paying back your loans. So, however many months you aren't in school....that will cut into your grace period. If you aren't in school for 3 months, that means once you leave school again, you only have 3 months before you need to pay them back.
