How to narrow down in applying college scholarships?

• My mother is telling me to try for hundreds of different scholarships; some of which require essays, projects, etc; but it's worth it. I was just wondering when is the best time to apply? Sophmore or Junior year? Currently a sophmore.

  Are you a sophmore in college or highschool? Any year in college is acceptable to apply for scholarships. If you are in highschool, most scholarships want you to be a atleast a graduating senior. This doesn't mean that you should put it off till then, it just means most places don't want the applications until then. I would say you can start writing essays that are vague and saving them until you are ready to complete the actual ones. Also, many want to know what school you got into and that you filled out your FAFSA form. This is usually a must. I would wait until the middle of your junior year to start filling out anything. By then you usually have an idea of a career and what school you are looking at and applying for. One last thing: Scholarships are definitely worth it. Some might be for only $200, but that is a couple of books for one class. School is expensive and every little bit helps. Books can cost well over $500 plus supplys that are required is another $100. You want as little of loans as possible, so keep trying, because it will be worth it.
