Post 9/11 GI Bill for those that want to take some online classes?
-
I'm a veteran receiving aid from the Post 9/11 GI Bill. I've been a full-student for the past year and a half and completely depending on the BAH I receive from the 9/11 GI Bill. I'm planning on working from now on as it gets stressful to depend on the BAH alone since the changes from one semester to another tend to lower the BAH on some months. I just rather have a steady check with work. With that said, it would be easier to take a couple of courses online, although I will still take a class or two on campus. My question is, will I still get the FULL BAH if I am a full-time student taking half of the courses online? That is, I will take 2 classes on campus and 2 online. I will contact my VA office to make sure, but we're on spring break and there's no one in school right now. I'm just trying to register for summer classes right now and I'd like to know, that is, if anyone knows the answer for sure. Thanks!

Answer:
This is from the website: "monthly housing allowance (MHA) based on the Basic Allowance for Housing for an E-5 with dependents at the location of the school. For those enrolled solely in distance learning the housing allowance payable is equal to ½ the national average BAH for an E-5 with dependents ($673.44 for the 2011 academic year & $684.00 for the 2012 academic year)" The phrase that jumps out at me is "for those enrolled *solely* in distance learning..." The School Certifying Officials Hanbook uses similar terminology. My take is that you would still get the same BAH you were receiving if you are still attending any of your classes on campus. I am learning about VA educations benefits currently, so please follow up. If you don't want to wait for your VA Office to open, you may contact a VA representative directly here: http://www.va.gov/landing2_contact.htm
