If I was denied Financial Aid at my college can I enroll to another one and get Financial aid?
-
I was denied Financial aid because I went over the units, but I had already gone over the units and the petition committee denied me Financial aid for a whole year in a half and I had to pay back. I still didn't quit school, I paid for the materials by getting a job etc. After that I petition and they finally approved me. So I did receive little money, but not that much since I wasn't a full time student. Anyway, I had to move and I had to drop for a semester, so now that I petitioned again, they denied me once more, Financial aid. I just don't understand why they would do this because I'm a year away from graduating, so my Ed plan shows that I'm not there to just get the money and leave. I need it, but now it's going to take just a bit longer for me to graduate since they denied me Financial aid and I couldn't afford a code for an online class on time. So what I want to know is, if I could go to another college and will I have to do everything over, or just a couple classes more and be able to receive Financial aid? I really don't trust my school (community college) anymore. And yes, I know losing a home is not an excuse for them because they denied my petition even though I had reliable proof. By the way, does anyone know what happens to the money that the government provides, but then is denied? Because I could see the award letter from FAFSA, but I'm denied the money.

Answer:
The best thing to do is to call another college and ask them if you could receive FAFSA somewhere else. And if they denied your petition, you will be on trial for about 2 semesters maybe, you can't have W's or D's. And if you're going to graduate sooner or around that time, you won't be receiving financial aid anymore, so if you can, I do suggest you go to another college. And students do have an amount of money that they can use in a college, but once it's all used up, they don't give you financial aid anymore. But if they have denied you twice, I'm sure there is still enough accumulated for you. Unless someone else is wasting your own money. But if you go to a university, they do give you financial aid again. If you're working on your Bachelor's degree. My sister used up all her college money and was there for a whole year without receiving financial aid and now she is at UCI and she is receiving financial aid again.

In short, you were not making satisfactory academic progress. The schools allow to receive financial aid up to 180% of your program. You took longer than that to finish. It appears you either took classes you didn't need for your major, or had to repeat a lot of courses. In any event, you can transfer to another school, however, yoru life time pell does not reset and you still owe for whatever loans you occured.

Even if FAFSA indicated you are financially eligible, that doesn't mean you will actually be academically eligible to receive FAFSA aid FAFSA has set limits on how many semesters you can use Fin Aid for school as well as number of credit hours for an associates degree & number of credit hours for a bachelor's degree FAFSA imposes these limits on the schools Changing schools may not fix the problem, but you can go to the other school that you have in mind & ask them. Most likely it will create more problems (your credits will still count in total & all of them that you need might not transfer)
