Where is a good place online to get a student loan for college?

Does FAFSA award more or less student loan/aid money based on the college you go to?

  • Any knowledgeable input is highly appreciated. Basically, I need to know if I'll be awarded more loan or aid money if I go to a big community college in my area versus a state university, University of Michigan. I've been accepted to both. However I feel it's near impossible to pursue a college education in my current living environment at home with family as there are tons of distractions etc. and I'm dying for change. I need to be able to afford a car and down payment on a small trailer or something like that. Just a little place of my own where I can really start to get my life going. At this time, I need to get as much funding from my student loan refund check as possible. I know full well I'll have to pay that back someday. So, to refine my question, does the amount of funding offered by a student loan vary depending on the school you seek to attend? I know people might think I just want to have money to blow, but I really do need to move out before I feel I can be focused on academics the way I need to be. Thank you for your time.

FAFSA eligible awarded money is the same.... no matter what school you go to. Sometimes State Aid or School Aid will be different bear in mind that you will have to use your parents' income info & tax forms to apply for FAFSA until you are over 24... even if you are self-sufficient & not living at home... so, if you do leave, make sure it is on excellent terms I have no idea where in Michigan you live.... and I am trying to give you a scenario So, I am going to use Lansing Community College for my example Let's say your parents earn less than $23,000 (together, total household income)... for FAFSA a family (for example family of 4) can earn up to @ $23,000 for the student to qualify for maximum pell grant.... the maximum pell grant is $5,500 per academic year Let's also say you are in-district & paying the lowest possible tuition amount: http://www.lcc.edu/schedule/general_information/tuition_fees.aspx you can expect your tuition, fees & books to be @ $4,500 for 2 semesters (Fall & Spring) or @ $6,800 if you intend to go year-round If, your student loan is $6,000 for the year... then this gives you only $500 per month to live off If your parents have higher incomes, strong work history & excellent credit, then they can co-sign for larger loans to help you get those things..... but, that isn't a wise plan because imagine being saddled with larger amounts of debt when you a new graduate trying to find a job You might look for a community college in MI that also has dorms. Look into Jackson, Northwestern, Southwestern, and North Central.... according to internet searching those 4 community colleges have dorms If you do this right, then you most likely won't need a car while in school and apply for work-study so you can sign-up for on-campus jobs (if there are any available)
