What do I do if my high school doesn't offer any AP courses?

How much further will i be with my ap class credits in college versus someone with no ap credits?

  • im going to be a junior in high school. My school doesnt offer many ap courses and the ones they did offer, i signed up for them. which includes Ap history Ap chemistry and then my senior year ill take ap calculus and what ever else they offer. is that good enough? how ahead will i be in college as an entering freshman versus another freshman w/ no ap credits. so,....With 3 ap credits (supposing i pass the exam) how ahead will i be?

  • Answer:

It depends on which college you go to, and how many credits you need to graduate with your selected degree. However, even coming in with just three credits can save you AT LEAST a couple thousand dollars by not requiring you to earn those credits through college courses, which cost money. Some colleges don't accept Ap credit if you scored less than a 4 or 5 on your exam, but even if you don't receive academic or financial credit for taking the Ap courses (you probably will, though), you will at least be further ahead in how prepared you are for the content of the course you will be taking. And yes, most of the time passing an Ap class with a 4 or 5, is equal to earning one college credit.

with 3 credits you will be one course ahead! do it and more if you have the chance, getting a jump start on college is a great thing.

depends on what your majoring in

depends on what classes you take in college. i took ap anatomy and got that ap credit and it did nothing for me in college. im studying to be in forensics. best of luck to ya

You'll have some credits already under your belt which will put you slightly ahead. Like a semester total in each of those course areas.

well if you passs all of your ap classes, you should get 3 credits per semister, at least you do at my school. if you take the ap exam and get a 3 or above you get a total of 9 credits per year. if you do this for all of you ap classes, you should be so far ahead, you wont keed to take your basic classes. i would just do what your doing.

AP and honors classes will raise your GPA better than just plain, regular class. No AP credits is not your fault. There is always Dual Credit classes. So, if you take Honors(Pre-AP/GT), AP, and Dual Credit classes, your GPA will be much higher than people taking Regular classes. Usually, (in the state of Texas), Honors classes and above is a 6.0 scale. Regulars classes only goes up to 4.0/5.0. With those AP classes that you are going to take, you are better off ending up in the top 10% percent, depending on all your other classes. Good luck with those classes in your junior and senior year. ;)

heres my advice, if your taking up something medical in college, AP credits USUALLY do not count. I took AP statistics in high school and the credits didnt transfer over because of my chosen major----pharmacy. also, AP's are graded on 1-5 scale. some schools accept 3's, but MOST don't so keep that in mind. Some schools don't even accept 4's. AP classes are a lot to take up in highschool. The first thing I would do is to narrow down your colleges and look into what they accept regarding AP courses. Do you have a general idea of what you are pursuing in college? If so, you can contact the department and they can give u lots of info regarding it. Dont waste your time if there not gunna count. its pointless. For example, i had to re - take stats in college cause it didn't count from high school...and it was taught COMPLETELY different. In high school we did everything in the calculator, in college u cant use graphing calcs for most courses so i had to re-teach myself differently because I was taught a different method. and for your question on how much further you'd be along, id say maybe a semester. But remember, every 'school' within each college has different criteria and expectations. good luck.

One AP Class usually is 3 or 4 College Semester Units which is the same as 4.5 or 6 Quater Units. Taking 3 of them will nearly get rid of one semester of work. Dual enrollment is when you are enrolled in two different schools.
