First, decide if you will be living off campus or still at home. Second, depending on your city take a look at what schools you would like to attend. A good way is to google "Colleges in Your City, Your State". Choose at least one ... this will need to be on your FAFSA form. Third, thing to do is fill out a FAFSA form. www.fafsa.ed.gov All colleges and universities base any financial aid on this form. You will need to apply for a PIN for this site. Choose to have it emailed to you because it could take 10 days to reach you by snail mail. Get organized. You are going to need to know tax information from your family. Once this has been processed it will be sent to your school of choice for consideration. You will have to be accepted at a college before any money can be awarded. Fourth, apply to your school of choice. You will need high school transcripts and ACT/SAT scores sent directly to your school. HINT: If you have transcripts or scores sent to you DO NOT OPEN them. They will not be accepted. Once applied start talking to the financial aid department as soon as possible. They can be a great source of information and help. That's what they are there for. Fifth, if you are still in high school talk to your guidance counselor. They are a great help. Remeber the internet is a great source of information as most colleges have websites to help perspective students on applying and financial help. I commed you on your decisions and good luck

Good for you! You can start with going to your community college, they are the most affordable. I started knowing NOTHING, except I was going to do it! They all want you "in" so they have counselors that help from the start to end. Just ask me, I'll tell you. It is great they treat me like I am an overaged kinder-gardener. Just walk in the door, the rest follows like breathing air. The financial aid process is very intimidating, so get there, ask for help, that is what they are there for.

Most scholarship information is listed on the school's website. You can also go to www.fastweb.com and that is a free national scholarship search. You must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid at www.fafsa.ed.gov. You will need a copy of yours and your parents 2005 taxes. It takes about 2 weeks for the gov't to proccess your info and send it to your school. They should then contact you about what needs to happen next (if you need to give them any forms, etc). Also you should talk to a financial aid counselor at the school. Don't stop asking questions until you understand and read everything you get in the mail.
