How can I get a free scholarship?

  • I am graduating in 2009 and I plan on going to college to become an actress. The problem is that I don't have the money to pay for college. The one I'm wanting to go to is Stephen's University in Columbia, Missouri.I've asked my parents if they could start saving up money, but it seems like they don't really care about my future.I'm beginning to think that if I want to go to college then I'll have to find a way myself. If anyone knows any way that I can get a free scholarship I would really appreciate it.Thanks.

Well, first of all, if it's a scholarship - it's free. Scholarships are given based on need and performance. What scholarships does the school you have chosen offer? And why did you choose that school? I have spent my life in theatre and I have never heard of it. I would suggest investigating schools with good and well-known drama programs, preferably large schools with good graduate departments. They tend to have lower fees and more options. Investigate work/study programs as well as scholarships. Check your local community for service organizations - Rotary Clubs, Lions, church groups - sometimes they will have scholarships. Usually they're not a lot of money but if you can get four or five, it can mount up. You said you had asked your parents about saving money - what about you? Are you working? Nothing impresses a school like a student who has worked and saved for two years in order to be able to attend.

Well, all scholarships are free I think, that's kind of the point... Anyway, check out some websites like www.fastweb.com. You fill in your information, and it tells you what scholarships are available that you might qualify for. Start applying now, and you may be able to get some good ones. You can also get grants and scholarships directly from your college, so see what they offer (try looking on their website) and what the requirements are. Then, try to meet them. It's good that you've decided to start this early, now you won't be so bogged down your senior year. Good luck!

TONS of financial help out there! Make sure you keep good academic records though! When your ready to start college...talk to your financial aid office they will give you apps for all scholarships! It wouldn't hurt to start saving a little yourself though! oh...btw don't ever go on the net and PAY for a site to tell you what scholarships you are eligible for!!! Colleges can tell you that for free! ....we had a girl pay an online site $700 to tell her that she couldnt get any aid!!!

The only thing that I can tell you is that you need to obtain good grades and do community hours in order to apply to as many scholarships as you can.I tell you this because most of them require good grades.Don't worry!!. By the time you start college you will have won some scholarships and by the way always FAFSA gave you money to pay for colllege. Check this link. Here you will find some that my college recomend. http://mdc.edu/scholarships/engines.asp Good Luck!

well I'm on 3rd year in school right now and the entire three years have been paid with financial aid and scholarships. the main thing to remember, keep your grades up and take accelerated courses also. Im not sure if they have this in VA but there is something called Advanced placement. and if you take the class you can take a test at the end of the year and get college credits and lots of money also. And probaly the most valuble but boring essays. begin writing tons and tons of essays. You can go to www.fastweb.com and browse and look at the types of essays you will need to write also. Or what I do is write one broad essay and change the words around to fit. Either way you will have to write which is also good practice because that's all you do in college!! good luck =)

shes so lovely

you should check out www.fastweb.com but i honestly think it doesn't help that much. you should also apply to a lot of the smaller or less known scholarships. many times, a lot of students don't apply for it and the money is still up for grabs. some that you should definitely check out is the Frank Buck Scholarship and the GATES Millennium scholarship. They are both full-ride scholarships, meaning they'll cover the entire cost of your tuition. also, there is the discover card scholarship for juniors. trust me, apply to a lot and don't be lazy. scholarships really really help you! oh, one last thing, look for renewable scholarships like the Buck and GATES. they don't have to be full ride scholarships, but renewable ones are great. definitely go to your school's career center alot!
