Question about out-of state tuition?

In-State tuition question...?

  • I live in PA and am wondering where I can get in-state... I know that some states offer in-state tuition to surrounding states as well (e.g. People living in Wisconsin get in-state tuition to Minnesota) Is this the case for PA? Such as I could get in-state to Ohio or West Virginia? Thanks for the help

  • Answer:

If you live in the western Pennsylvania counties of Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Crawford, Erie, Lawrence, Mercer or Vernango, you can qualify for significantly discounted tuition at Youngstown State. Keep in mind that out of state students at West Virginia pay tuition that is line with the in-state rates at Pennsylvania's public colleges and universities. (WVU has a reciprocity agreement with all of Ohio for specific majors, but not Pennsylvania) West Virginia charges out-of-state residents $16,402 for a year of tuition, while the University of Pittsburgh, for example, charges IN-STATE tuition fees of $13,000-$17,000. Other than Youngstown State, I'm not aware of any other schools that offer discounted or in-state tuition to Pennsylvania residents. Good luck.
