How reliable are all the fastweb scholarships?

I've tried fastweb but is there an other website where i can get good scholarships.?

  • I really want to go to college and i need some money. Does anyone know any easy websites where i can get scholarships. Please help. Thanks.

  • Answer:

Absolutely - here are two great sites for you, both courtesy of the Department of Education. The first is this one http://wdcrobcolp01.ed.gov/Programs/EROD/org_list.cfm?category_ID=SHE Use that site to find the link to the official website for your state's higher education agency - you'll also find specific contacts you can write to at the agency for more information. Why are your state agencies important? Because the Department of Education gives money directly to each state every year to fund college scholarships. There are some excellent opportunities there that most students don't know about. So definitely check out the possibilities there. The other great site is this one: https://studentaid2.ed.gov/getmoney/scholarship/scholarship_search_select.asp?13817/ Again, from the Department of Education, you'll find both a scholarship list (with contact info), and a scholarship matching "wizard" that tries to match you with appropriate scholarships, based on information that you provide. Forgetting scholarships for the moment - I do hope that you have filled out the FAFSA (free application for federal student assistance). Scholarships are great, but they're competitive - grants and federally-backed student loans are not. Federal grants and loans are awarded purely on the basis of financial need - you're not competing with other students. If your need is significant, you WILL qualify for federal financial aid assistance. You should also fill out the FAFSA because your school's financial aid office bases its need analysis on the info you provide on that form. Once the Department of Education passes that information to your college or unversity, the financial aid office at your school will put together an aid package that is designed to cover most, if not all, of your cost of attendance (minus whatever amount the Department of Education determines that your parents should contribute). The cost of attendance includes more than just your tuition, it also includes room and board, books, fees, miscellaneous expenses, money to travel back and forth from school, and even money for a computer. Make sure that you have completed the FAFSA, and make sure that you've contacted the financial aid office of your school. They are your best resource for information on the financial aid that may be available to you.

I've come to realize that fastweb is an endless site and the chances of getting a scholarship from them are slim to none. I instead talked to my career center in my high school and was able to come to university roughly having my freshmen year paid for. Once I got here I filled out the scholarship applications and FAFSA and went to the scholarship office to check for new or updated scholarships. Check your career center at school.
