Is suicide the only way out to discharge my massive student loan debt?
-
I owe 90k in student loan debt. I have been paying as much as I can, but it is not enough. I can only afford about 400 a month. They want over 1000. I only make about 30k a year after taxes. I can't see myself living like this for the rest of my life. I will never own a car or a house. I will be lucky if they don't take so much of my wages that I wind up homeless. According to Sallie Mae, I have no rights, only death..

Answer:
Oh please, your life is much more important than money. You have lots of options. Talk to a financial planner who will help you work things out, talk with the credit card companies/financial lenders and see what is the best plan. Sometimes a consolidation or bankruptcy are options. It is just money. Breath.

Kind of sounding like a drama queen don't you think? Just keep looking forward. There are always options if you look hard enough. If you have a education that costs $90K you should be able to do better than $30K a year. Are you sure you have explored all employment avenues? If you can't find a job suited to your education where you live try looking at other states that may have a shortage for the field you are qualified. You can also look hard at your budget. Trim the fat wherever possible. I have been poor for a long time. I learned how to feed myself for $15 a week and that is eating one meal everyday. I walk to where I have to go whenever possible even if it means a couple of miles sometimes. If needed get rid of the car and use public transportation. That right there would save a ton of money just in insurance premiums alone. You would be surprised how cheap you can live if your back is to the wall but you have the determination not to give in or give up. Find a place to live where it doesn't require money. A situation like room and board in exchange for work around the house or other similar situations. If you can't find such a living situation then put your own advertisement in the papers for such a situation. If you aren't already working 2 jobs, then get a second one. Working 7 days a week is a small price to pay if it will get you out of your money woes. You can also start being more responsible about incurring debt. Don't be taking on debts without thinking about how you will be able to pay them back under a worse case scenario. If you are making 30K AFTER taxes there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to afford $1000+ monthly payments besides living expenses. Many people have house payments higher than that and are doing it. So quit the drama. If you really ARE suicidal you should be spending your spare time in a support group instead of posting on yahoo. Besides, why are you paying for internet service if you are so desperately in debt? You can't eat internet service and you can't put it in the gas tank or heat your home with it. Like I said, trim the fat.

first of all sucicide is never the answer to anything. dont let debt or debt collectors make u feel any type of way cause u cant pay them they try to get money out of u thats there job they will say or do anything to accomplish there goal. majority of the debt collectors probably have debts of there own. either way there is more to life than worryin about things u cant control live ur life ur doin what u can and they will just have to deal with it

what are you trying to compare to life?? once your dead then theres the end of your journey....no suicide
Sorry but in the small print Sallie Mae follows you even after death. The only (illegal) way out is to take out a private loan pay off Sally, declare bankruptcy and default on that loan. Then change your name, fingerprints, possibly sex and dye you hair. They may still try to find you however.

for most federal loans: You can become disabled to get your loans discharged. You can also do 10 years of work in public service (while paying on the loans). You can also teach for 5 years in an approved school.

First off, what the hell did you major in to rake up 90k in fees?!!??! You only make 30k? Thats just rediculous, you need to find a higher paying job. With the money you spent I hope you have a doctorate or PH.D

im not sure if u have tried income based repayment but that or a reconsolidation for a lower payment might be your best but. income based repayment goes off your last years tax returns and can lower ur payments specially if u owe alot and dont make much and u have dependants. if u sign up for ibr every year and stay current that balance that is left over after 25yrs is forgiven. or 10yrs if u work for the government or public service
