Student Loans - should I be paying on them while I'm in school?
-
I made the decision to go back to school - completely on financial aid (including loans). By the time I graduate I will have $24k - $25k in student loans. Half will be unsubsidized the other half is subsidized, which means I will have to pay interest on the subsidized portion. All of my loans are deferred, so I am not obligated to pay anything until I graduate (or quit - which I don't plan to do). Should I go ahead and start paying some on the subsidized loans? If so, how much should I pay? Should I pay just the interest, pay as much as I can afford (whether that's more or less than the interest), or wait until I graduate?

Answer:
If you can afford to pay some on your loans that would be beneficial for you in the long run. However, the unsubsidized loan is the loan that starts accruing interest right away while the subsidized loan is the loan the government pays the interest while you are going to school. But again if you have the money it will ease your responsibility later.

If you have extra money then pay. Even $20-$50 a month is a great way to start. Seriously. When I went through engineering school there was a plasma center right next to my university. I would go there twice a week and made $270 a month just by doing that that all went to my loan. Best choice I made.

It is really up to you. If your really worried about them and want to get them paid off as soon as possible than start paying on them now. You can pay however much you want on them it would all be up to you.

yes.. pay your loans down while you are still in school before they activate and turn into actual interest accruing debts. KEEP UP WITH EVERY PAYMENT RECORD! The gov is so big they will lose info. If it gets turned over to debt collector they will fwack you over and talk badly to you constantly because theyhave the legal backing of the government. They will slow pay your debts and make things worse.. so take care and keep your debts down.
