How do i get money for university in America?

  • i really want to go to university in america (im from england). after lots of research, I've found that it would be VERY expensive- at a maz of £50,000 including food and rent and stuff for 4 years im not AMAZINGLY CLEVER, im predicted A's and B's in my gcse's, maybe the odd one or two A*'s, so im not sure if scholarships are in question so i just wonder how i could get this money without landing in the biggest debt of my life? thankyou xxx

Meow: I wish had some brilliant answer for you, but you are hard up against a very real financial reality. I'd like to drive a Lamborghini, but I don't think anyone can tell me a secret method for affording a Murcielago on my income. As you're finding out, it costs an absolute fortune to attend university in a distant foreign country, especially in a place like the US, where international students pay high tuition and fees. We all know people who do it, but most of these people come from the kind of outrageously wealthy families that can afford it. It's not something that the average student can do, any more than the average motorist can afford a Lamborghini. If you are bound and determined to give it your best shot, I would recommend that you look for American schools that go out of their way to attract international students. There are websites that target this type of 'audience' - I can offer up a couple of links, but I can't vouch for any of these sites, because I've never used them. InternationalStudent.com ( http://www.internationalstudent.com ) has information on financial aid, and a list of schools that are traditionally willing (and able) to provide the greatest amount of support to international students. You can search by US state - just look for the drop down box at the top of the page. Just looking through the list, I see that the University of Miami (just as an example) has 709 international students, and that the average financial aid award for those students was over $21,000. At the same time, though, you'll also see that Miami has a high annual cost - almost $45,000. Another site, International Education Financial Aid (IEFA) has been around for over 11 years, and they claim to be "the premier Internet resource" for information on grants, scholarships, and loan programs. You can find that site here: http://www.iefa.org/ Good luck to you - I hope this information helps you!
