Check with your state's Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation. They help put disabled and displaced workers through college or other training programs (with no repayment needed). And, they can hook you up with mentors.

you need to check out the FAFSA web site. It's for federaly funded student aid. I'm not sure what the address is, but put FAFSA in the search engine and you should find it. There's a link to tell you everything you need to get together before you start filling out the forms and you'll get an answer pretty fast. Even if all of you education isn't funded this way you could take out a smaller student loan. Most banks will work with you on paying back the loan. Some will give you more time with lower monthly payments, but the interest will cost you more. Also check into going to school online. Both the FAFSA and most banks will fund this type of education and it costs less than an on campus school.

So, the question to ask yourself.... Do you want to go to college so you can work when you graduate? If the answer is yes, then go and take the debt if you have to - you many not need to if you get grants. But be sure you go into a degree program you can actually find a job in regardless of your disability. (Going to school to be a truck driver prob isn't a good idea if you are blind). If you want to go to school but don't want to go to work after wards, then I wouldn't take out any loans, see if you can go just on federal Pell grants and Vocational Rehab assistance.

You will have debt if you take out college loans, but the interest rate on them will be quite low. Is your disability going to be gone when you finish school? You need to pick something to study that you know you will be able to do, so you can pay off those loans once you are done. Otherwise, I would suggest checking out various grants that you would be elligable for, or special loans based on low income/disability-then perhaps you would have less to pay back. The thing is, is that with a college education you have a greater chance of making a better wage then without...... it really is a good invesment. I think you should go for it.

If you can get a job now.... then you can get a BETTER job when your finished with college. Disability for what? Will you be able to work again?
