Is computer engineering/ computer science a good field to go into?

Too late to get into computer science industry?

  • After taking a couple computer science classes, I figured that I want to pursue something in computer science as a career. However, I am already a double major in International Affairs and English and as a second year in college, the university will not allow me to pursue a minor in business. I want to go into International Business, so I'd figured I'd choose computer science as a field of industry so to speak. I already keep put with the news in technology and I enjoy computers, so I'd figured that it would be a good fit. I was wondering if it was necessary for me to know about computer languages and engineering. If so, is coursework a requirement or is there a way for me to get experience without taking coursework? (Especially if I won't have enough units to minor in CS. This I don't know for certain.) If I don't need to know about languages and engineering, what would I need to do?

  • Answer:

"I am already a double major in International Affairs and English " This is an error, given you want to be in "industry". Companies do not hire "international businessmen" straight from college. If you want to do computer science, do it (or something related). Actually, there is a degree that combines Business and your choice of "Technology". It is the BSTM degree in Technology Management.
