Do colleges look at your first semester junior year grades?
-
Ok, I'm a junior in high school and I just finished the first semester, because the year is divided into two. First term is from Sep. - Jan. and second term is from Feb. - Jun. I was wondering if colleges look at all at the first term grades, because I was told by students as well as teachers that they look only at the second term grades, especially the grades that you get at the end like in May and June, and that those grades are the only ones that go on your transcript. I would just like to know. Thanks!!

Answer:
The degree of thouroughness with which they evaluate your grades will vary from school to school, but the MOST important thing is your cumulative GPA - this gives them the best overall impression of your academic performance. Every semester will go on your transcript, but keep in mind that the admissions selection process will vary greatly from school to school - some schools put more weight on your essay (though there are schools that don't even require an essay), some on your scores (SATs, grades), and some on your extracurricular involvement (clubs, service, community activities). The best thing to do if you really have your heart set on a particular school is to check out there website and see what their admissions requirements are, or call their admissions office and speak with someone who can tell you what they are looking for. Hope I helped and best of luck!

They look at your final grades and your GPA.

I think they look at your class rank, SAT scores, and GPA. I am not sure how much they nitpick but I am sure they would notice if your first term grades were subpar and would affect your overall grades.

Colleges will look at all grades on your transcript. In general, they don't have access to any grades that don't appear on the transcript itself

They often look at your over-all gpa from all the highschool years.

Most colleges only look at your GPA, tests scores, and the grades you received on the classes that relate to your declared major (that is if you have a declared major). Also, honor classes are always investigated. I mean getting an A in Chemistry versus getting a B- in Honors Chemistry is completely different. Colleges would prefer the A condidate than the B-.

I think most colleges look at your grade 12 and 11 marks. But its really hard to start off high school with bad marks and then bump them up during your last two years. SO START OF STRONG

The teachers and students are almost certainly wrong. Colleges look at all the grades on your transcript. But if you have a low grade in the first term and a higher grade in the last, it helps--they'll see that you maybe had trouble at first but obviously kept at it and "got it" It is possible (though I never heard of this) that your high school only puts final term grades on your transcript. I'd chechk with your school administrative office that handles the transcripts. If they follow standard procedure and put the grades from all terms (and that is probably the case) they need to give the teachers a heads up.

Yes they do - as well they should. Keep your grades up come hell or high water.

They look at your all your freshman -> junior year grades. The only grades they may not look at are your senior grades, because you generally won't have those by the time you apply for college. They look at your GPA (just for high school) and they look at your position in your class relative to the other students, i.e. what is your rank in the class.
