Can I get into Top Schools (UCLA, Cal, Stanford, Columbia etc.)?
-
I am a sophomore in high school, but I am currently studying abroad. Here is where I currently stand. Freshman Year: World History (H) (Pre IB) A/A Geometry (H) A/A French 2 A/A English 1 (H) A/A Biology (H) B+/B+ (89% both semesters) Research and Technology (one sem. required) A Soccer for both high school and club, CSF, Assistance League, French Club Sophomore: English 2(H): A French 3: A European History AP: B Chemistry (H): B Algebra 2(H): C Art: A Club soccer, high school soccer, National Honor Society, CSF, Assistance League, Mock Trial Right now for my second semester of Sophomore year I am studying abroad in France, and plan on being fluent by the time I am home (only been here 2 months and have already improved tremendously) For Junior Year I am taking all IB courses (all AP and an extra "theory of knowledge") will be involved in all clubs and hopefully will hold positions. I am debating giving up soccer to help focus on my school work, because there was obviously a significant drop in my grades this year. However, this summer I am taking classes at community colleges and summer school to change my Chem grade and my Algebra 2. This should change it to all A's and one B in my AP class. Considering taking night courses at a jc to fix my Bio grade as well (from freshman year) to make that an A. I am really good writer and am preparing for the SAT, ACT, and PSAT. I am also taking a summer camp at Stanford for pre law students, as I want to be an international lawyer. If I do well and can write a great admissions essay what are my chances? If it means anything…my dad is a UCLA grad, and my uncle is on the board at Cal and is also one of the biggest donors…

Answer:
Yes these marks will get you into UCLA if you also supply them with a 2100+ SAT score and good supplementary essays. Of course the IB and AP courses will make your resume stand out amongst all of the other 20,000 resumes submitted. Also try to do 3 IB or AP exams! Getting a score of 4 or 5 on 3 of them will get you an international recognition. Redoing those courses is a good idea, but I am not sure if redoing them will show up in your resume also. It might mean to the universities that you are only pounding on the marks--and not on the supplementary materials. And for the Ivy League schools, I do not have any information to tell you of them. Never the less Good Luck!

Your grades as too low for these schools. However, your uncle may be able to get you into Cal. Your father being a UCLA grad will not do anything for you.
