How do I Become A good Nurse?

Can i become a nurse even though i am not good at maths or have a science background?

  • I'm not good at Maths since i had given up on this subject when i was little, my teacher was very strict and i just gave up easy back in the days, i regret it but then i can't change it so..anyway i'm not good with maths and i know as a nurse you need to know the basic of maths like measurements etc. And i don't have a science background either, i did study a bit in school but that's about it. I am willing to learn and try my best as nursing is my passion, i want to finish the first year of the nursing course and then apply to uni's or join the army nursing.. so i am just here for some advice and opinions. Do you think i will be able to become a nurse? I'm starting my access course from this september.

  • Answer:

Anything is possible if you try hard and put your all into it. In the end it will be very well worth it since nursing is your passion. Don't doubt or underestimate yourself just have the state of mind that you can do it. If you struggle there are college tutors that can help you, and various tutoring websites and videos online available to help you out. Try figuring out your best way of learning and use that to your advantage. Good luck (:

It'd be pretty hard to be one without math & science skills. Those are all that nursing are really about. I would suggest going to a community college for a few years to catch up with requirements then go to a university to get your degree, good luck :)

Numeracy is an important part of the course I'm afraid and in the UK 2nd year students onwards in uni must achieve 99 - 100% scores! As a nurse, when calculating medication quantities there is really no margin for error. However I've completed my access to nursing course and they do make you complete numeracy level 3 usually which gives you the basic knowledge you need... You can further this at your own time. As for the science, the only science you'd really need is biology and Anatomy and Physiology is also covered in your access course. Congratulations om your career choice. Noble work - just wish I'd stuck to university personal problems got in the way though.
