How important are sports on my college resume?

What can I put on my College Resume that will be very impressive? (READ?)?

  • So recently I been interested of attending Stanford. A lot of people of been telling me that I can make it and some have been telling me the opposite. So heres my college resume...so far.. I still have three months till graduation meaning that I have time to bring up my GPA and maybe do some more community service. GPA: 3.5 (I STILL HAVE TIME TO BRING IT UP TO A 4.0) SPORTS: Soccer And Softball. Community Service: 1.) West Covina Libary: 75 hours 2.) Kaiser Permanete 50 3.) House Of Christ (community church) 100 Hours. 4.) Habitat for Humanity: 50 CLUBS: Youth Leadership forum (there is only one club at my school.) SAT SCORE: 2200 ACT SCORE:30 Well thats pretty much it. I honestly do not know what else I can put on there, Hobbies? Talent or special skills? I have so far ten recommedation letters which is pretty good. But still someone who was an ivy college proffestor and worked at NASA told me that there is nothing interesting on this resume. And maybe I shouldnt let that person get to me but still if I turn this resume knowing that i need to do more and at the end i dont get in then i will be a little bit mad at myself since i did not give it my all. SO what else can i put on here that will seem "interesting?"

  • Answer:

GPA ; 4.0 . Soccer > Softball . All community services . Your club is good . Your test scores are both ok . Try to find the best sources you can . List all of your recommendation letters . Also add; What top percentage of your class you were in . What you plan to major in . Past experiences related to your majoring subject . Your skills . A letter of what you will do to help the college.

"lot of people of been telling me that I can make it [to Stanford]" They are making fun of you.

I'm usually a troll for fun, but as a Stanford allum I will be honest here first before being mean. I do not care if you still have "time to get your GPA up to a 4.0" Your 3.5 is too low and you do not have time to get your grades high enough for Stanford. Zero chance. Everyone who goes there has a 4.0 and well over a 4.0 with a weighted GPA. Not enough time especially if you consider that you will apply basically next fall before your final grades are in. Your resume is uninteresting because it shows no leadership. They value that highly. If you were captain of your teams and the leader of your Church group you might have a chance, if you blew the SAT away (we're talking well over a 1500 pushing 1600 on the old scale...when 1600 was the max, I am not familiar with the new but the equivalent) then you might have a chance. But not as is. Your best hope is to take one of your projects, perhaps your community service, and turn it into a major event involving lots people that you organize and lead. Then you need to study for the SAT until you can make serious run at 1600 (2400 I guess). To be honest that 3.5 is probably already too late to get over, and you might need to look at other schools. ****TROLL PART SINCE THATS WHAT I DO***** Other schools like University of Phoenix Online. Or to write it so you are able to read "Yooneeversity of Feeniks." Stanford is about as obtainable for you as a pet unicorn.
