What do you major in to become a teacher?

What can I major in to become a teacher at Sonoma State?

  • I'm thinking about attending Sonoma in the fall as a first time freshman, but they don't specifically have early childhood education or elementary education majors. There has to be something else I can major in and still become an elementary school teacher, right? Such as the Human development and Family studies major?

  • Answer:

In California there are no public university undergraduate majors in education. The teaching credential is earned in a fifth year after completing an undergraduate degree in almost any subject. I suggest that you consider applying as undecided as to your major and in your first year learn informally about the various paths to your goals. I hope this answer is more helpful than my previous one.
