I am very confused about my college career plan! pls read the info and help me with your honest answer. thanks

  • i am very confused on whether i should go to a 2 0r 4 year college for my nursing career. i don't know whether spending all those time at 4 year is worth it for a nursing carrer or just go to a 2year. going to 2 year does it necessary mean that you can finish it within 2 year? what did you think about this? my family is divided and so are my?.although i have already been accepted at 4 year but i guess i can still change my mind. pls offer your ideas.thanks if 2 year the best option?

  • Answer:

Do the 4-yr degree. It will give you a BSN which provides you with more career opportunities and better pay than just an RN from a 2-3 yr program.

if you have a choice, you should definitely go to nursing school for 4 years. You will be able to be a different kind of nurse if you have a 4 year degree instead of a 2 year degree. The schooling is very different in a 2 yr program and a 4 yr program. When you are done with the 4 yr progam you will be able to get nursing jobs that pay subsantially more money than the jobs that you would be qualified for with only a 2 yr degree. In the 2 yr program, you are not just working harder and finishing the same amount of education as you will be if you go to school for 4 years. You will be a different kind of nurse if you have 4 years of school. You will be more qualified and have more skills and be paid more. congratulations on being accepted into a 4 year program and please take this opportunity to become as educated in nursing as you can!!

I suggest going with the 4 year plan for long term security. The better paying positions in nursing careers typically require a B.S. degree. If you receive the BSN, and begin working as a registered nurse and want to continue your education to a masters degree, then even more opportunity opens up to advance your career to a nurse practitioner. They are primary care providers in a variety of settings, and they get the bigger bucks and career prestige. Of course, none of that matters unless nursing is really what you want to do. I have been researching this info myself lately, as I am 2 years into BS in Animal and Veterinary Science, but I am giving serious consideration to changing my major to nursing. Good luck to you!

Here is what I am doing: I am going to a Community College to satisfy my General Education Requirements....then going to transfer to a 4 year Nursing program to satisfy the nursing requirements. I will come out of it with a BSN, and will be eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam, PLUS apply to graduate schools for an MSN degree. In the next few years the market will be totally saturated with Associate Degree Nursing students, so it would be more beneficial to go for your Bachelor's degree right away if you can. Of course, it does always depend on your financial situation, and how fast you want to get into the work force.

Well, a 2-year is short hand for a junior college, it doesnt necessarily mean it will take 2 years. You can get everything done to be a nurse in a junior college, but if you already have been accepted into a 4-year (CSU or University), and have the money, you should go for it...its much better education, and a much better experience. So although you dont need to attend a 4 year, id recommend to, for a better education, and for a better resume

2yr you will be in the work force faster. Yes the money is good, but do you really want to sacrifice your youth? 4yr college will get you a better job (registered nurses don't have to change bed pans), better pay and better options if you decide that nursing isn't right for you.

just curious

If you are able to go to a 4 year nursing program, that would be best because the degree will be higher. If you have financial needs to be addressed, a 2 year college isn't necessarily bad. Either way, you will be ok. Good luck to you!
