Is it better to go to a community college for 1-2 years or go straight into a university and why?

i just want information and comparison between going to a community college and a private university. what do you think? (NO NONSENSE ANSWERS! SERIOUS QUESTION!)

Answer:
I think that if you are unsure and do not have the financial backup, it is better to transfer from a cc. In time, you'll have a better understanding of where you want to go and what you want to major in. Good luck!

It depends on your situation entering college. If your grades aren't quite up to par, then going to community college can be beneficial to pull up your grades before entering a 4-year college. However, if you don't need to pull your grades up and are accepted to your university of choice, I would suggest going directly there. You wouldn't want to possibly invest time and money into classes/credits that may not transfer if you're able to go straight to university.

i have great grades and my mom(who cant bear to realize i want to go to school not sooo close)suggested to my college counselor that i go to community college for 2 years first. he said that he didnt want me to, cuz he wanted me to go somewhere where "people had the same educational drive" as me....i dont know, thats what he said, not my words. i also think that u should go where u have the best time because why go to a place where u might really enjoy urself for 2 years, if u could go there for 4?

If your goal is a bachelor's degree and you aim to apply to professional programs such as medicine, physical therapy, optometry, pharmacy, etc, then it's advisable to go straight into a 4-year college/university. This is because credits earned from community college are generally not considered 'competitive' and 'acceptable' to meet the criteria of pre-requisites of most professional programs especially medicine. Most people enter community college for many reasons, 2 of the most common reasons are: finances and poor grades. It is very much cheaper to attend a community college. It may also be a quick way to gain a qualification to enter the workforce eg. nursing. The other reason for entering community college is simply because the grades are not good enough for universities. Therefore, the community college is a good platform for one to boost his/her GPA so he or she can transfer to a university later. Of course, depending on your own situation, you will have your own reasons to choose between community college and university. I encourage you to go straight for university if there is really nothing stopping or hindering you from entering a 4-year college/university. If you choose to enter community college first and then transfer to a university for your BS or BA degree, you are likely to spend 5 years earning your bachelor's degree. You will spend 4 years straight in a university gaining your BS or BA degree.

GO COMMUNITY FIRST...BASIC LOW PRICED STUFF THEN UNIVERSITY ! ALSO DEPENDS ON YOUR DEGREE FOR THE EYES OF SOMEONE (YOU WENT TO COLLEGE)

I went to a two-year school and got my AA degree, then went to a university and didn't have to take any of their basic general ed classes. Chances are you'll get better grades at a two year school, plus it will save you grief later; you'll get to go straight to 300-400 level classes.

That depends on your level of preparation in high school. Are you ready for any advanced courses? These might include second-year (college) in some foreign language, calculus, micro-economics, theater tech, or political science. If so, head for the university, where you can get those courses in a format that directly prepares you for the upper-level courses. However, if you're taking English composition, pre-calculus, U.S. history, civics, Spanish 101, and chemistry (with no qualifier), you can probably save money and stress by taking the classes at your local community college.

Each option has its benefits and its shortcomings. If you were you go directly from high school to university, you would have a stronger, more well-rounded education (academics in university are better than at any community college). But, you would have to deal with the more expensive tuition and possibly living expenses (if you live away from home). If you chose to attend community college, however, you would be paying alot less money for tuition and would have an easier time getting that "A", but when it comes time to transfer into a university after 2 years, you'll have to deal with the transition from lower-to-higher education. You also might want to consider your options as a transfer student. As you see above, you'll need a strong GPA coming out of community college or high school. So if you don't think your high school GPA will get you into your university of choice, then it would be more beneficial to attend community college and work toward a 4.0 GPA. Another downside in attending community college would be that once you transfer into a university, your GPA no longer matters and you start fresh, and that makes it more likely that you'll keep a good GPA in the last two years of university. Hope this helps. :)

It depends on your grades and finances. It's a good idea to go to CC if your grades aren't up to par and/or if you're not financially able to afford a private university (public univ. is usually more affordable). But if you're lucky and received a scholarship from your school of choice then definitely go straight to a 4-year university. Just remember, if you do go to CC and plan on continuing at a regular univ (public or private), make sure the credits are transferable.
