What jobs can u get by doing a chemistry or biochemistry major?

What type of jobs can i get with a BSc degree in Biochemistry or Chemistry?

  • are there alot of jobs available with that type of degree or should i keep advancing in university to increase my chances of getting a good job/career

  • Answer:

If you want to work straight out of undergrad, you can be a research/lab assistant to a scientific researcher. You can also work for pharmaceutical, medical, and cosmetic companies as a lab tech. A friend of mine is graduating with an Animal Science B.Sc, which is practically a biochem degree with some animal science classes, and she'll be working with Johnson & Johnson as a lab tech when she's done. the other thing you could do is go for a master's or other graduate degree. look at some schools and their grad programs, read about what each professor does in terms of their research, and send them emails asking about if they're accepting graduate students. then, if they are and they're interested in you, they'll talk to you about funding. you might be able to get your full graduate degree funded... which is awesome. Good luck!

There is not much you can do with a biochem/chem degree. If you only have a 4-year degree with a biochem or chem major you are looking at a salary around 30,000 a year. You are not going to have much oppportunity at all. You are going to want to get a phd. If you are getting good grades I would highly recommend looking into dental or med school.
