Is there a demand for males in physical therapist assistant field?

Becoming a Physical Therapist Assistant before becoming a Physical Therapist?

  • hello. well as you can see my major is physical sciences. Under this major, I know I can become a Physical Therapist (which is my dream) and a Physical Therapist assistant. I know that a physical therapist requires a master's degree in physical therapy and that physical therapist assistant requires only an associate degree for physical therapy assistant. Will my associate degree in physical sciences be enough in order to become a physical therapist assistant? If so, should I become one? I still want to become a physical therapist, so am allowed to be an assistant while taking night class prepping me to become a physical therapist?

  • Answer:

There are assistants who go back to PT school. It is definately not a requirement and may slow you down. PTA courses do not translate into PT courses. There you will not receive credit for the courses. There are only 2 bridge from PTA to PTA in the US.
