Law vs. Business: Pros and Cons of Both?
-
I'm in grade 11 and it's about time I decide what route I want to take for my education/career. Law and business are the fields I see myself in most. I've always been told i'd make a good lawyer because I'm good with arguments and heavy discussions. On the other hand I also really like business and have always thought about opening my own, probably a restaurant or something like that. The subjects i'm best in are math, english, physics and law. I'm looking for a career where I wouldn't be doing the exact same thing every single day, something flexible and something with well... a lot of money ;) so please tell me what you know about these careers. pros and cons??

Answer:
Have you thought about combining both of them? Take a minute to think for a sec... Business...Law.. They're actually really related. You could study contract, tort, property and even patent law. For example, the multi-billion company known as Apple (the makers of iPods) has been a bunch of legal battles lately against Samsung. Their patent lawyers are making quite a fortune. If I were you, I'd get an undergrad in a business program and then apply to Law school afterwards. You need to have an undergrad before going to Law school so you might as well get it in business. To be honest though, business sounds like much more fun. Honestly, many people are good at debating but law isn't really as exciting as CNN says it is. Imagine just reading 100s of essays or journals, constitutions all day long. In business atleast it teaches you skills in order to manage your personal and business finances, file your taxes and get the most return, , it can teach you how to market a product better, how to invest, how to use software effectively (Microsoft Office) ,how to start a business, human resource skills etc.. I've got a really negative attitude towards law sometimes because it often is just used as a way to screw the public over, and the law isn't really fair [Google/YouTube Rodney King beating]. It's often what keeps the middle class/poor down and then the high class rich. Just my opinion though. Law teaches you how to write eloquently , how to avoid trouble with the cops ... and...well that's about it.. Anyways, hopefully I helped!
