What community colleges guarantee admission to UC's?

Does TAG guarantee me admission to a UC from community college?

  • So I'm starting Saddleback college this summer and will be eligible to transfer at the end of next year (I took a bunch of college courses during high school). Saddleback says it has TAG with UC Davis, Irvine, Merced, Riverside, San Diego, Santa Barbara, and Santa Cruz. So does that mean that once I complete my 60 units at Saddleback, I am guaranteed admission into whichever of those UC's that I want to go to as long as a keep a 3.2 etc? I'm confused on what exactly this Transfer Admission Guarantee is. A little explaining would be appreciated. Thanks

  • Answer:

Yes, the TAG pretty much guarantees you a spot (not necessarily in the major of your 1st choice) at the UC that you sign the TAG agreement with. Most students are limited to doing 1 TAG with 1 UC. You have to meet GPA requirements, unit requirements (get at least 60 of the UC transferrable units finished) certain course sequence requirements, and such. All the requirements should be listed on some info flyer or something and you can only do a TAG with the school counselor. If you sign a TAG with a school, you can still do the regular application process with the other UCs. You just can't do another TAG with any other ones.
