How to become an international CPA?

How does a CPA become an ACTUARY?

  • I am interested in becoming an actuary and would like to work in investment. I am a CPA and have 4 years of work experience but I want to try different careers...because I only live once. Here are my questions: 1. How many exams are there? 2. After how many exams can I be employed as an actuary? 3. Could I get thru the exams with no strong math background? (I only took up to Calculus 3). 4. Does it pay well? (My base is about $80K in DC) If you can answer any one of these questions, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you

  • Answer:

No single path leads to a career in actuarial science. Actuaries come from all educational backgrounds, nations, ethnic groups, and both sexes. They also enter the profession at different stages of life. Many have chosen the profession after beginning their working lives in other occupations. Information on a change to actuarial career: http://www.beanactuary.org/news/futureactuary/2000sept/fa_0009_3.cfm http://www.beanactuary.org/changers/faq.cfm Information on an actuarial career can be found in the Occupational Outlook Handbook, which is published by the U.S. Dept. of Labor. http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos041.htm Median annual earnings of actuaries were $82,800 in May 2006. The middle 50 percent earned between $58,710 and $114,570. The lowest 10 percent had earnings of less than $46,470 while the top 10 percent earned more than $145,600. s
