  • Reflection Essay It is not easy for a second language student to reflect and relate to the fundamental of English writing. There are many new strategies, new skills and development that one should know such as writing. Writing in English has always been my toughest challenge as a student because there are many things that a student had to deal with it such as basic writing, organizing, grammatical errors, punctuation, and so on. I have struggled with writing an essay throughout my whole life time since I came to this country. It didn’t make sense since in the beginning but now I’m learning to write in academic way. This semester I have improved so much and some of the improvements are my ability to writing, taking notes and re-evaluating my papers. When I first came to Ms. Ovies class, I wasn’t confident in my writing ability because I was still having problem on how to write my paper in a fundamental academic way. However I do know the basic of writing which involves introduction with thesis statement or plan of development, three body paragraphs and a conclusion. I know all these steps but my organizing was slackly. I use to start out with a general statement (GS), statement of fact (SOF), and opinion. These makes me write all over places without having control of my paragraphing or organizing but then my Profess Ms. Ovies show me a proper way of focusing my paper and not jump over all the process. First, I need to read the prompt carefully than decide on what I want to write and how to write it. Second, do a free draft which helped by getting all the ideas in the paper and most importantly “avoid Write Block”. And the third step is to do a rough outline. A rough outline help student on how organize his or her paper. Once I learn all this, I was able to conduct with writing my paper on a formatting way which made me a better writer than I first started. Taking note from the class lecture was my biggest improvement over this semester. Speaking generally, I don’t usually like taking notes due to the fact that I don’t have time to review it. However, in my Ms. Ovies class, I learned that taking note on lecture can becoming rewarding on the next paper or also help to remind student on what they need to review or what homework they should do and when it is do. Also that Ms. Ovies does not like writing on a board like many of my other professor. She advises her students to take note on everything she said due to the fact that we are colleague and that it is our responsibility to take notes on whatever she said and review it later. This help us by improving on writing too because writing a lot of not help by learning how to be organized and how to be neat and also reminds us of oncoming paper due or homework pages. Also taking notes helped us by studying for the next exam or the next test because usually some professors lecture are not cover on the books and that it is very important to take note and remind yourself of what needed to be study. My third improving was learning how to re-evaluating my paper. For many years, I have had problems with how to turn in a revise paper, sometimes I think I did well but the result is a bad paper so I have to do them over and over again and it becomes confusion and frustration. However, I learn that in order to receive a good grade in college that student’s must cope with writing a good paper with no grammatical errors or punctuation. The student paper must be at 95% to get to university level and it is hard but there are a lot of help. First, the student can work in group study, learning from each other or have a partner that he or she can work together with and correct each other papers or homework. Second, they can also ask the teacher for help. It is the student responsibility to see the instructor and get the help they need because the instructors are there to help the students who are behind academically or doing badly in the class. Thirdly, the students can also go to the tutoring department services which they will find students tutors that they can relate more to them than the professor. Those students’ tutors are also there to help the students with each need they require and help them get the concept and until they understand it right. I found all this help are useful in this semester and it helps me get good papers and good grades. Despite these clashes, this was the best semester experience I have anticipated ever as I was learned how to write in more academic fundamental way, learn to a better note and review them for my paper and study and also learn to evaluate my papers. I will take this experience into consideration and learn more writing in the next semester, as I know I will encounter many obstacles but I know that I’m ready and that I will do best and I will work hard as I did on this semester and persuade SDSU. thank you

  • Answer:

It is good that you say that now use spell-check; however that still doesn't fix all grammar problems. I suggest that; after writing and reading the result to yourself, you then read aloud (speak) your work to a colleague for their response on your writing's grammatical flow. Carefully match my re-write to your text to see the minor and other differences. I have tried to keep my re-write at the level you have set yourself. There are many ways to say something in English and other readers may write differently to me. There is a lot of repetition in your third paragraph. When you read your work ask yourself: 'Are you repeating what you already said?' In 4th Paragraph: Your 'third' was not 're-evaluating' but 'a rough outline'. Comparing, you will see that Grammar-wise your paper was a failure, but my version of your writing style may be passable. There is far too much padding, or restating what you have already said, in order to lengthen the work. Put commas where you pause when speaking what you write. Is anyone actually teaching you how to write? Did you do a spell-check??? There are spelling errors. The full text here might not get through Yahoo; Yahoo is not suitable for long answers. Your text is re-written as follows: Reflection Essay It is not easy for a second language student to reflect and relate to the fundamentals of English writing. Learning new strategies and skills for one's development is important, and one of the main skills that development requires in today's world is that of being good at the art of writing. Using these organising tools made me a better writer than I was when I first started.
