-
I have applyed to studt midwifery at university. However they have written back asking why there was a year gap in my employment and education, the reason is because i had a baby nearly 2 years ago. Should i mention the baby or is it best not to? if i shouldnt what should i say i was doing for a year?

Answer:
i think you should tell the truth having a baby is a perfectly good explanation for a gap in employment.

Of course tell them about your baby, it's not a crime, if anything it will add weight to your application. You've been on the receiving end of midwifery services. Good luck with it. x

Charlotte, I would think having a child would be an asset to becoming a midwife and not something to hide and be deceitful about.

Of course you should tell them! You haven't done anything to hide away from. In fact, you've had a child, gained valuable experience, and got back on track with your education! If you ask me, they'd be daft to turn you down. ;)

Be honest. If it's going to be a problem for them that you had a child, then you probably don't want to go there anyway. More likely, they'll be impressed that you got back on track with your education - and the experience should help you relate to your future patients.

honestly that will probably help you get the job. taking a year off to take care of your baby is great and plus having a child will make you a better midwife cause you can relate

You should always be honest and tell the complete truth when applying for any position - surely a midwife who has had a baby is a definite asset - it is possible you have already spoilt your chances by not putting that information in your application - if you had been honest they would have accepted it. If you do not tell the truth there is every likely hood that sooner or later the truth will out - it has a habit of surfacing somehow eventually - then you will have to answer some difficult and embarrassing questions. ...

tell them. If you lie they ay not offer you a place.

Definately tell them about your kid. You could also say that after having a child you are more interested/passionate in pursuing this career. You will also be able to relate better to the mothers you meet when you start working. Gd luck
