What is a Vet Tech and what do they do?

What colleges or schools would you need to attend after highschool to become a Vet Tech?

  • Im barely a freshmen at highschool and many say college is a long way ahead, but honestly times fly by and the next thing you know college is right around the corner! Ive been wanting to persue a career of becoming a Vet ever since i was younger, but the schooling in general takes a long time, and finding a job may lead to a longer wait as well. Having this in mind, ive made up my mind to become a vet tech! Im still confused on the courses I need to take, and where to go. Ive heard positive statements about UC Davis being a great school to become a vet, but do they offer classes to become a vet tech? Or do you have to attend veterinary school for this? Many also say it only takes 2 years to become one, as opposed to others who say it takes 4 years. Can anyone give me feedback? It would be great if you personally are a vet tech and could explain to me your experience; others who may know of this can also answer! Thank you!

  • Answer:

Most vet tech programs are two-year community college programs. They are offered at only a few community colleges. See www.avma.org for a list of programs.
