Decent Art Colleges/Liberal Arts?
-
I've spent the last week searching for colleges but I'm overwhelmed. I simply don't know how to decide, what to look at, what i want or where i should go. I'm a senior in highschool and its pretty much college prep hell right now. A little background about my highschool career up to this point has been half good and half bad. The bad is rooted from personal issues i experienced the past 2 years (which i have overcome). Right now my overall GPA is about an 88 and I'm number 74 in my class. I've taken honors classes since as far back as 7th grade. Last year i started an American Studies class (AP U.S. history combined with honors English), which i dropped due to my inability to complete the work required of the class at the time. I took AP Bio and scored a 4 on the AP. This year I am taking AP British Literature, AP European History, and AP Drawing as main classes. My grades are currently in the 90's in all of them. As far as college goes, not only am I conflicted about art school vs. non-art school but i also have no clue which colleges would be right for me. I really like the Boston area, and I've decided to keep an eye on BU and Northeastern, but i need to know more. Could anyone provide just a basic list of colleges (based on the general info i gave)? I understand the immense variables that go into this but I just need somewhere to start. I'm mostly interested in the humanities and arts. I love science and am great at math, but these two areas are not what i wish to pursue. My guidance counselor said i should aim to have a list of 6 to 10 schools, some in NY (In-State) and whatever ones interest me out-of state. I would be grateful if anyone could mention some schools as I am in desperate need to get my stuff together for this year and next.

Answer:
Go to a SUNY campus which offers an art major and a business minor so that you can find a job to support yourself while you try to sell your art after graduation. It is a total waste of money to go to an out of state or private college or university if you plan to major in art. Most art colleges are total rip-offs. Beware of them. Your guidance counselor apparently thinks that you or your parents have money to burn if s/he is telling you to look at out of state schools.
