What does a Physician's assistant do?

What would you choose to be; a doctor (MD/OD), Physicians Assistant, or a Dentist.?

  • I am doing my undergrad right now and I have the grades to get into medical school, but I don't know what to do anymore. The people that I know that are doctors are telling me not to become a doctor. They tell me that being a PA would be better especially with how things are with the administration right now. What would you do if you were me?

  • Answer:

Go to dental school. My husband has just graduated with his MD. Medical school is unbelievably challenging and unless you're absolutely sure this is the only thing you could possibly do, the hassles aren't worth it. It isn't just that you have to be smart, it's that you have to be willing to give virtually all of your time to it for at least 7 years (4 years of med school and at least 3 years of residency). Not to mention the student loans. Allopathic (MD) and Osteopathic (DO) curriculums have the same downsides. Most Osteopathic programs are even more expensive than MD programs (although it's a very interesting field and just as good as an MD). Being a PA would be fine, but the money and lifestyle are better in dentistry. Plus, as a PA, you'd be taking direction from doctors and since you have the grades for med school, I bet that would grate on you after a while. Most dentists make more money than most doctors who aren't elite specialists and they usually only work 4 days a week. Good luck!
