Can you have more than two majors?

Confused with my major. Can someone tell me if these two majors are different?

  • I just got accepted by UC Merced as an undergraduate into the "Natural Sciences" major, I wanted to become a doctor and that is why I chose that major. I went back to their website to check out all the information about UCM to see if I really wanted to go there, and somehow I ended up looking at other majors. They had "Biological Sciences" and "Pre-Medicine" available, should I switch my major? or could I just continue with my current major and still go into Med-school?. I'm thinking about being an Oncologist if that changes anything.

    Natural sciences includes, Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Earth sciences, Material sciences and Physics. So depending on the degree requirements at UC Merced, a degree in Natural sciences might be broad in comparison to a degree in Biological Science or Pre-Medicine. Speak with an adviser at UC Merced to inquire about your situation. In my opinion, you should switch to Pre-Medicine because you'll probably take courses that are pre-requisites to getting in a medical school. However, keep in mind that medical schools have different admission requirements. Best wishes!

Natural Sciences is a broad topic, so likely a Department, rather than a Major. Pre Medicine is likely a Life Sciences program that will get much more into topics like anatomy and will provide a good foundation for you. Many students wishing to go on to Med School do Biology Majors in Undergrad, too. In fact, you can even do a double major or a major in Pre-Med with a Minor in Biology or vice versa. Good luck.
