What will the gpa be with this grade?

My HS GPA ascends from 3.66 in 9th grade to 4.0 in 12th. How will this affect a college admissions decision?

  • So my overall GPA for high school is a 3.87. It's mostly brought down by my freshman year grades, which came to a 3.66. In 10th grade, I got a 3.91, in 11th a 3.99, and in the first semester of 12th a 4.0. How will I look compared to a kid with a straight 4.0 across all four years? Does the upward trend make up for the (comparatively) low cumulative GPA? I applied to a bunch of highly selective schools; a couple ivies, a few top 10 LACs, etc. Are my grades/grade trend good enough? Any feedback would be appreciated!

  • Answer:

Your grades are very good, and its nice that you showed improvement over the course of your high school career. Unfortunately a 3.87 won't get you into any Ivy Leagues unless you have stellar extracurriculars/ volunteer work, and an exceptionally high 30+ ACT score ( or SAT equivalent to a 30), very high SAT II scores (like 700 and up). I myself applied to some Ivies with a 3.99 GPA and was rejected. It's all up in the air really. Maybe you do get accepted! Just have a back up school. You'll probably get into on of the LAC's you applied to though, but just be safe! Good luck!
