Why is it so hard to get accepted to a school?

Is it equally hard to get accepted at a D.O. school as it is to get into a M.D. school on an F1 visa?

  • I wanted to do pre med in US on a F1 visa and eventually want to attend a med school. I heard D.O. schools are a bit easier to get into than M.D. schools.I know for an international even with an american college degree med school is a longshot but is it the same case with D.O. schools? And what about dental schools? Do dental schools like to accept us citizens and permanent residents only? Thank you!

  • Answer:

Both MD and DO schools don't like to sponsor people in the USA on visas. If you're not a citizen or a permanent resident, you probably have very little chance of making it into an American medical school of any kind. This also applies to dental schools. Consider going to a medical school in your own country, taking the USMLE exams, and then applying for residency in the United States.
