What are my chances of getting into a really good University?

What are my chances of getting into Northwestern, University of Chicago, and other good colleges?

  • I'm a junior in high school, but already super anxious about college apps! I was wondering what you guys think are my chances of getting into these schools? Thanks, and here's some more info: Freshman Grades (by semester): Geometry- A+/A, Advanced English 1-2- A/A, Health (one semester)- A, Advanced History (one semester)- A, Biology- A/A, Italian 1-2- A+/A+, P.E. B+/B, Band- A/A Sophomore Grades (by semester): Algebra 3-4- A/A, Advanced English 3-4 A/A, AP Euro- A/A, Chemistry-A/A, Italian 3-4- A/A, P.E.- B/B, Advanced Band- A/A Junior Grades (first semester): PreCalc-A AP English- A AP US History- A AP Physics- A- Italian 5-6- A Advanced Band- A Psychology- A At school, I play 2 sports: Tennis and Track. I was on the FroshSoph team freshman year, but have been on varsity for 2 years. I've done track all three years, not very good at it though. I've been in the Band for all 4 years. I picked up Jazz Band Sophomore year and am continuing it this year. I started a club this year called kids helping kids, where we try to help kids around the US, and all over the world. We have different missions each month to accomplish. I have been on the Honor Roll and in the Honor Society all through my high school career. I was a finalist in the National Merit Scholarship. I've played the piano for 12 years and the piccolo and flute for about 7. I've won many competitions including my local conservatory, as well as competitions at the SF Conservatory. It's my passion. I've been rated a Command Performance (The highest rate) in California's Music Teacher Association competition twice now. I play the flute and piccolo in the Peninsula Youth Orchestra at the Young Artists level. I will be advancing to the highest level next year. I have approximately 200 hours of community service, and have participated in Relay for Life for three years. I have a part time job in the BP Department at Nordstrom. Prior to the job, I worked as an intern at Nordstrom. My piano teacher, flute teacher, tennis coach, italian teacher, history teacher, science teacher, and math teacher I'm sure will all write me recommendations. OH YEAH! I almost forgot. I've taken the SAT once and my scores were 750,750,750! So I got a 2250. I think I'm going to retake though! Oh, and I live in California :) Hope that's enough information! I would really appreciate a response!

  • Answer:

10%~20% for elite colleges. Don't get obsessed with elite colleges. Apply also to schools just below the elites, such as: Vanderbilt U of Rochester (Eastman School of Music...) Colgate U Sewanee—University of the South
