If I will do IT engineering, What is the scope of it after 4 years?

This year I have passeed 12 exams and have taken admission in a private engineering college I presently have electronics and communication engineering I want to change my stream to IT engineering. My queries are : What is the scope of it after 4 years? How much will i earn? Will I be employed? I am in first year of my engineering college. Also tell me how should I change my parents mood that I want to change the stream?
