Video and Film Production Schools?

I am enrolling in a Film course, would it be a good idea to take video production as well?

  • I am really interested in film, directing editing and all of that. Would it be a good idea to take video production along with photography? What other classes should I look into that will help me later for my degree? I am signing up at my local community college by the way. Any suggestions would help thank you.

    There should be a curriculum for film majors at the school. Follow it. Discuss with professors in that department what courses you should take to both fulfill requirements and also to help you learn what area you want to specialize in. In film school, I took normal, math, science, English and history courses as well as multiple 35mm photography courses, multiple production and post production courses including; shooting on multiple levels of cameras from consumer grade video, to professional video to professional 16mm and editing on Final Cut as well as AVID. I took a script-writing course, history of film course, philosophy of technology course, Photoshop, basic graphic design and so on. As you finish courses and find what area of production your interest most lies in, you can take courses that contribute to your skills there. One thing I didn't take were business courses and that would have been smart in retrospect. You're doing the right thing already by just going to school instead of buying gobs of cheap internet-forum-recommended equipment and trying to figure out how to use it by yourself as most kids seem to be doing lately. So good job on that!

Definatly. anything that is or has to do with film that suits you. but you first have to figure out what part of film you want to be involved with, whether it be editing, actually shooting, or all of that. because there is an extensive amount of training that goes with each part of film. as for what classes? well after you chose what part of film you want to be involved with go to the community college and ask a counseler of someonre of the sorts that can help you and really focus and give you direct answers and what classes other students might take
