What BS degree should I get to become a counselor?
-
I'm interested in becoming a high school guidance counselor. There are a few colleges around the area that offer graduate programs for school counselor education, but im not sure what programs I should take to get to that step. I was thinking if I got a BS degree in either Psycology or Social Work .... then would I have to apply to the counselor program to earn a masters?

Answer:
You'd most likely be getting a BA, or in the case of social work, a BSW [if your school even has that]. Guidance counselor most likely requires a Master's in counseling or guidance counseling or, perhaps, school counseling. You'd want to find out what the licensing/certification requirements are for the state in which you want to do counseling.
