What were your grades in high school, what college did you go to?

Could i still go to a good college even though i had bad grades in high school?

  • I'm a senior in high school and i havent done so good in my 9th and 10th grade, i did ok in 11th and im doing a little bit better right now. I want to become a lawyer. Do i have to go to a community college before i go to a good university/college? if so how long is it in the long run(law school including)?

  • Answer:

If you want to go to law school, going to a community college is a good idea regardless of whether you 'have to' or not. Law school, as you know, is extremely costly. Going to a CC saves you plenty of money that you don't need to waste on your first 2 years at a 4-year. You get the same education for a fraction of the cost, and later you can put that saved money towards law school. Save yourself some debt. If you go to a CC and graduate in two years, then get your bachelors in two years, then enter immediately into law school, it will take about 7-9 years.

If you get enough credits in a community college, it basically voids your high school transcripts and you can transfer.

Hey Jimmy, I had no chance of getting into a good university right out of high school. I'm currently at a community college where I have maintained excellent grades (my high school teacers would be impressed!) and will be transferring to either UC Berkeley or UCLA next Fall. This was unthinkable just a few short years ago. If you want to do it, don't let anything stop you!

It depends on your definiton of bad and what your grade actually are. Be realistic, and ask your parents, teachers and college counsler.

This is going to completely depend on exactly what your GPA is and exactly what your definition of a "good" college is. A state university or college is going to be way more lenient with entry requirements than an Ivy League school. Community college is a good option if you can't get into a unversity right away, but it is not required. And you are also going to have to get your bachelor's degree (4 yrs) before you even begin to look into law school (3 more yrs). Law school is going to depend on your undergrad GPA and your LSAT score when you take it. You are going to have to look into schools individually to see what is right for you.

I would honestly recommend attending a community college before going off to university. This will give you a chance to pull up your GPA and give yourself a good academic record and standing - basically, you'll be able to say "I know I made bad grades in high school, but I was much younger then and since then I've matured and take school very seriously now, as my grades for the past two years in community college show." You may also be able to make yourself eligible for scholarships while in community college that were previously unavailable to you because of your grades. Contrary to the beliefs of most high school seniors, there is NOTHING wrong with community colleges. You can receive a quality education, and prepare yourself for life at a big university. Good luck in your studies!

It will be hard. Go to a community college and talk to a counselor. Get good grades and transfer. You can get some of the classes out of the way and it will no doubt be cheaper and easier if the classes aren't overloaded.
