What were your grades in high school, what college did you go to?

If you didn't get good grades in high school can you still go to college?

  • my high school life has not been that good because im been switching schools every since i started and my grades have not been good plus they kept putting me in all different kind of classes can i still go to college and possibly start fresh there

  • Answer:

Grades are important. I, too, did not do well in high school. I was the original under achiever--Bart Simpson before Bart simpson. Although I waited a few years before I went back to school, I think it wouldn't have mattered much when I went. It might be a good idea to start at a community college first. Take the time to figure out what you want to do and to make your mark as a better student. It is possible you might be admitted on academic probation. Your grades will determine whether you are invited to leave, stay on probation, or advance. Once you have established yourself with better grades (I'd advise getting your Associates Degree), you will then be better able to be accepted and attend a four-year. Good luck.

Yeah you can. I did it and you can too. I did very poorly in high school, but I am now receiving "A's" in college. Worst comes to worst you can always start off at a junior college and then transfer anywhere. I wish I did that instead of going to a four-year University right off the bat. I would have saved a TON of money!

Dialectical Reflections

Yes, I barely graduated from high school. Early in high school I was getting all A's, but like many teenagers by the time I was in grade 11 I was apathetic, depressed etc. Being that I am reasonably intelligent, I'd make sure to do 60% of the work leaving 10% for error so that I'd pass. My grade 12 average was probably something like 55%. After that I went to community college for a year and acheived straight A's and applied to a degree program after that. After you get some post secondary education in you, your high school grades are worthless. In fact, I know people who are in honours programs that don't even have high school diplomas! High school is not the be all and end all despite the pressure I'm sure you're feeling. If you want something, you can achieve it and yes, you can even still qualify for top programs with a little bit of work.

hey, can you please define bad, how bad is bad, because bad is very relative. anywayz, i think that it depends on the univeristy and major to which you are going to apply to in addtion to the level of fellow studnets. you can't start fresh of course, university life is so different than high school life, don't skip lectures, attend all homeworks and projects, create many friendships and enjoy it. you won't lose anything if you apply. wish you best of luck

lara

yea...it'll probably be a community college tho. not that that's bad.. cuz i am lol

I started college at a community college. I don't consider that to be an inferior choice. The instructors/professors at community colleges are really focused on teaching and have time for their students. As long as you apply yourself there, you will have no problem transferring to a four year institution.

pj

yes, if you can't get into a 4 year university you can go to a community college and then transfer to a university
