Answer:
It's usually much, much better to retake the classes at the same community college because of how GPAs are calculated. Most community colleges will allow any courses with a grade below C- to be retaken with the new grade replacing the old one, up to a certain number of units. If you transfer to a different community college and retake the courses, your new grade will be averaged with the old one, which dramatically lowers your GPA. So let's say you have 4 courses where you received 2 D's and 2 F's. If you retake those courses and get A's in all four, then you'll have a 4.0 GPA for them. But if you transfer to another community college and get the same 4 A's in those courses, your GPA will be 2.25. Those low grades will weigh down your GPA for any school that you transfer to. The only exception is if the new university has an "academic renewal" policy that allows whole semesters to be ignored, but there are usually many requirements to do this, where the semesters have to be at least 5 years old, your current GPA is less than 2.0 because of the prior semesters, and a limitation of the number of semesters that can be renewed. For example, here's a link to the academic renewal policy at Cal State LA: http://www.calstatela.edu/academic/registrar/records.php#renewal

Make sure they are transferable credits.
If you passed any of your classes at the first community college you should take a copy of your college course description and meet with the new community college advisor. If you passed any of the basic required classes at the first community college you should not have to take the class again. I suggest that you enter the second community college, meet with an advisor and start taking the required classes you need for your current major. BUT do not try to hide the first community college work. You will probably start on probation which means that your Grade Point Average is low but you are willing to work and show them that you are passing your classes. Keep a college catalog from each college. If none is available then keep a copy of the course description of each class that you passed. I did not have to take a class because I had taken it out of state and had the course description and could prove it was the same class.
