Transferring from Stony Brook University, to CUNY Queens College or CUNY Hunter?
-
I am an undergraduate freshman at Stony Brook, and I LOVE SBU personally. However, I have to commute to the campus from Queens every single day (which is like 4.5 hours in total), which is hectic beyond imagination. My financial aid package is not enough to cover my room and board expenses, so I can't dorm. I did not do well in my first semester, but I thought I will do better next time. However, I realized that, the commute is so stressful that I barely have any energy left after coming home after 8 or 9 every day. I am always too tired to study. So now I am thinking of transferring. I am a Biochemistry major in the pre-med track. I was wondering which school, CUNY Hunter, or CUNY Queens will be a better option for me. I have done college work before, and my GPA was always above 3. However, the quality of my work has been declining, and I have been getting terrible grades, just because I don't get enough time to study, and barely have a GPA of 2.5 now. This is very discouraging for me, and I don't want to risk my admission to a good med school with a terrible GPA. I love Stony Brook a lot, but right now, this seems the only option. I don't want to take out loans, I can't rent a room somewhere around the campus, and I didn't get any other scholarships. If I transfer somewhere in the city, I can go to college from my home, and the fin aid for both Hunter and Queens will be the same, which can work out perfectly. Suggestions regarding anything, CUNY Queens vs. Hunter, any other option of sticking to Stony Brook- everything will be appreciated :) p.s. sorry for such a long detail

Queens College is a good choice for you./

Hunter is probably better in terms of pre-med, but with bad first-year grades, medical school is not likely in the cards anymore. Plus, you need to consider the commute to Hunter v Queens College, since that seems to be a problem for you. Have you gone back to financial aid and explained your problem to them, and asked if your financial aid could be expanded to include housing? That's the first thing I would do.
