Becoming a physical therapist?

Interested in becoming a pediatric physical therapist?

  • i want to be a physical therapist and i like working with kids so i thought pediatric physical therapist :) i see regular PT's advertised but never like any PT's with a specialty. would it be hard for me to find a place where i can work in that specialty? or should i just become a pediatrician. (i don't think i could handle to work of a pediatrician though)

  • Answer:

Yes, there is a pediatric specialty. Most pediatric specialists are either involved in school based therapy, early intervention in the home (ie, birth to 3 years), or in a childrens hospital. You should have plenty of opportunities.

Other answers

I have never heard of a pediatric physical therapist, most people take their children to a physical therapist. A well-funded children's hospital may have one, but the chances of finding this job are slim to none. There is probably no technical position of a pediatric physical therapist, you would specialize after the 8 years of school. You could work at a place that may specialize in helping children with disabilities, but you should really think about just becoming a physical therapist. General and Sports are the two categories of physical therapy in general.
