What are my chances of getting into a good college?
-
I am currently a junior at a small public high school in New York State. I recently did my schedule and figured out what classes I will be taking next year. It has gotten me thinking of college and I cannot decide where I want to go or what I want to do. Would anyone be able to help me because I am not sure if I am aiming too high with the colleges on my list or not. Freshman year was my worst year of high school academically. I had no honors classes and my overall average for that year was around a 90%, or 3.5. I participated in Leos Club that year as well as being a member of the JV Soccer Team. Sophomore year I did a little bit better, although I did not have any honors classes in my schedule that year either. My overall average for that year was a 93%, or 3.8. I was treasurer of Leos Club, Captain of the JV Soccer team, and was awarded Offensive MVP that year. Junior year so far is going well. I have had a high 94% both quarters so far, and my mid-quarter grades rose to a 96%, so hopefully my 3rd and 4th quarters are much higher. No honors classes this year, but I am Secretary of Student Council this year and participate a good amount. I was a member of the Varsity Soccer Team as well. I also just got a job and start tomorrow. I plan to hold this job until graduation. There are few honors classes to even enroll in and they are in subjects that I am not as good at. I am better at math and science, and they are in english and history. There were honors courses in English 9-11 and Global 9-10, but I did not enroll because those subjects do not interest me. There is an AP US History class that is offered to juniors that I didn't take because I HATE history, and the teacher is horrible. But, on the bright side, I will have a pretty good schedule for next year. The classes I am taking include: English Composition/English Literature* Physics Pre-Calculus AP Economics Spanish 5* Psychology/Sociology College Statistics/College Algebra* A * indicates that the course is a college level course offered through our state schools for college credit. I have already gotten credit for Spanish 4. And I might potentially also get college credit for Pre-Calculus depending on who the teacher is (one teacher teaches high school Pre-Calculus, very bad teacher, I have her for Chemistry and she is absolutely horrible; the other teacher is from another school and does a college course over webcam, several students take it and say they enjoy it and he is a very good teacher, and they get college credit). I would also get AMAZING recommendations from a local physician who I have worked on-call for for four years now, she is a graduate from University of Rochester. I would also get one from either my math teacher or english teacher from this year. My SAT scores will not be that great, average at best, maybe 1760. ACT I could probably get to a 28 at the highest. I am very bad at timed tests. The schools I am interested in are: College of Charleston University of Vermont SUNY--University at Buffalo James Madison University New York University University of Michigan University of Washington Ohio State University Drexel University Temple University Penn State University Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute University of Rochester (having a rec from alumni, would that help?) University of California--Santa Barbara University of California--San Diego Alfred University Syracuse University University of Texas--Austin I know that many of these schools are very difficult to get into, but what would be my chances after seeing my credentials, all of the public schools are out of state except for SUNY--UB. My favorite one on this list is probably University of Michigan or New York University, both of them are very expensive. But, what do you think my chances are if I applied to all of these schools. Which ones would be my safeties, matches, and reaches? Thank you for reading through all of this, it is a great help.

Answer:
Sounds like you would make a great engineer. Have you ever heard of out of state tution? Keep in mind that this can double the price of tuition. * Just in case your parents are not extremely wealthy.
