I want to become a clinical Psychologist? What is the regular salary?

• I live in Miami, florida. I am graduating high school in 2010. I am still deciding to what college I'll go to,and trying to get a scholarship. Should I do my first mandatory years in a regular college, and then move on to university? Or if I get covered by a scholarship start and finish in university, I don't have the best income, my family's really broke we have a very low income (and i work). I want to know around how many years of study I have to do, what do I need to get in a 4-yr university in order to graduate in clinical psychology, can I take like a master's? it does not have to be doctoral unless you choose to get one right? Also, what are other types of psychologists besides clinical? Basically, my questions are: 1) what do I need in university to become a psychologist 2) how much I will get paid as clinical 3) how long will it take me. Thanks so much!

  1) As an undergraduate psychology major, there will be numerous psychology courses for you to choose from. I've taken courses such as: social psychology, psychology of women, psychology of sex, etc. You will have a lot of freedom in this courses in most programs. Most programs also require a statistics course, which can be a pain in the butt. 2) The average salary for a psychologist is 173,922 according to the bureau of labor statistics. You can get paid more depending on how many years of specialty training you do. 3) College should take four years. It will take about five years of full-time study after college to get a Ph.D. or Psy.D. degree. Then, after you earn your doctoral degree, it will take about two more years to complete your post-doctoral training hours and study for—and pass—two psychology licensure exams.
