What is a dorm party like?

Should I apply for the party dorm if I'm a bit antisocial but want to branch out?

• Here's the thing - I've always been antisocial in high school, not because I want to but because I just never made friends freshman year. I kind of kept to myself, did my own thing, focused on improving myself and improving my grades. I know this sounds really sad but - I never went to parties or became close to/hung out with anyone. I still had very close friends from middle school that I've stayed friends with but we all went to different schools and now I'm moving across the country for college. I've been reading about the dorms at my new school and there are 1-2 that are known as the party dorms. I think I should go with that because I'd hopefully force myself to meet social people and not become lonely as I did in high school. However, grades are still very important to me, and I'm also a person who needs near-complete silence to fall asleep (that problem could hopefully be solved with earplugs). Is it a good move though? To be honest I'm not sure how to act at parties. I can't talk about academics - not that that's all I want to talk about, but speaking from experience I'm not a person who can carry on a convo well & make myself sound interesting to new people, although I have no problem talking a lot with my friends I've known for 4-6yrs. I guess it's something I could pick up.

  Definitely go with the social dorm. You'll be thrown into social situations and it'll help you open up. The friends you make in college will likely be friends for life. Not to mention your college experience will be 100x better if you make some friends. Don't worry about it too much, just get out there and have fun!
