What kind of jobs can I get with an American Studies major?

What kind of job can you get with a major or minor in African American studies?

  • outside of teaching, what kind of job can you get from majoring in, or taking a minor in African American studies.. also if you have any first hand information about the course in general, you can drop that as well. thanks

    a libriarian a statitician for the census bureau a museum curator public relations all i can think of right now as far as the course is concerned, I know there are many that you will be taking to fufill the minor requirements, as i should have told you I am also a aas minor. I am unsure of the courses you will be taking, but I can talk with you later more in depth about it

Caseworker at a Social Service agency. Well there are a variety of African American courses. There is AA Lit, Afro Caribbean Studies, Black Women in America, Blacks in Political Science just to name a few. I have taken a few courses in Black Studies.

You would probably need a Masters, but from my experience, with a BA you can probably get a job in nonprofit agencies; substance abuse programs; Social Work, family agencies, museums, political campaigns, TV or Radio stations. Good luck

Just an idea...have you ever thought about Political Science? You could double major in both, or take a major in one and a minor in the other...then you could do alot...cuz from what I saw over the last few months, I think you would do well in the political arena

I'm not to sure about majoring in african american studies or poltical science that lead to high paying jobs. Unless you want to be a teacher. I could be wrong but good luck. = )
