How important are gcse grades when applying to good universities?

Will I be able to get into Imperial university or any top universities with these GCSE grades?

  • So my GCSE grades are as followed...: Physics: A Biology: B Chemistry: A Drama: A Geography: B Spanish: C Maths: A English Language: A English Literature: B P.E: B CIDA/ICT: B Will I be able to get into Imperial, Oxford, UCL, Queens Mary, Cambridge or any other with these grades? I know they look at A level results in more depth, however some people say that you need straight A*s to be allowed to study medicine in these top universities, could someone give me a true answer? Thanks

1 month ago I got an offer to study medicine at Imperial College London. The GCSE requirement is AAABB in any order in the following: Maths, English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology. At A-Level you will need 3 A's, including either Biology or Chemistry at A-Level, but the other must be offered at AS-Level if its not at A2 level. I believe someone said you are not able to get into Imperial with your GCSEs. This frustrates me SO MUCH that people are giving false information that could have affected you. If they dont know, they shouldnt say anything. I got into Imperial to study medicine, I can GUARANTEE you that your GCSEs are fine, its just the 3 A's at A-Level you will need to achieve. Also, to get an interview at Imperial, you must meet the cut-off in the BMAT admissions test in ALL 3 sections, failing to meet the cut-off in one section will result in rejection. Last year the cut-off was as follows: Section 1 - 4.9, Section 2 - 4.9, Section 3 - 2.5B. It is tough to meet the cut-off, and only about 20% - 25% of some of the best applicants in the uk, and even the world, will manage it. Please listen to me and not to some others who really do not know. I KNOW !!!!!!! I got in, so trust me. Heres a link to undergraduate medicine at Imperial, its a six year course as you get a BSc as well as an mbbs. --- http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/ugprospectus/facultiesanddepartments/medicine/mbbsmedicine And heres a link to the entry requirements and selection procedure. --- http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/ugprospectus/facultiesanddepartments/medicine/mbbsmedicine/entryrequirements

Medicine is so very competitive, then chances are that your application won't have a second glance at a Russell Group university. Then again, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Check their requirements on the UCAS site .

Sorry, but no. Medicine is highly competitive. You need almost all straight A*s for any uni, let alone the particularly prestigious universities.
